I don't know why Bush went to Europe. Did he really think they'd give him anything? It may only partially be his fault, but he has less clout internationally than ANY American President in my memory. We seem to have squandered any ethical high ground we might have had, totally gutted our "soft power" and our economic power. The ONLY respect he gets is from the barrel of a gun, as in Iraq, and since he IS there and can't really do anything else, even THAT isn't working. Bush is just an ignorable nonentity - a paper tiger.
