Slant Point - NY GOP: Patrick Manning

By Scott S on New York State

Patrick Manning is being touted as a potential candidate against Hillary. Let's just say he's starting at zero. But the election is in 2006. Another to watch...

Manning shares Hudson Valley’s economic successes with upstate county

Hudson Valley Assemblyman Patrick Manning of Dutchess County last night addressed the Orleans County Economic Development Corporation.

Manning, chairman of the Assembly Minority Republicans’ Steering Committee, said he was asked to talk to the group, but not with that hat on. Instead, he said the group wanted to hear from him about the “ Hudson Valley’s success story” and how New York State can become more competitive in the global society.

Manning has been mentioned as a possible GOP candidate to run against US Senator Hillary Clinton and the upstate speech could be used to test the waters, especially in light of speculation that he has already set up an exploratory committee, which he denies.

Manning was noncommittal about the possibility of a US Senate run. “I’d certainly never say ‘never’,” he said. “I would certainly consider any opportunity that was presented to me.”

Among other Republicans whose names have been discussed about a possible Senate run are former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who may also consider a run for state attorney general.
