That reminds me of how Mongolians attach a wool saddle pad to a horse. They cut dozens of vertical slits on either side of the horse and attach a freshly skinned sheep hide onto the back of the horse. The hide would be tied tight and after a few days the back of the horse would fester and the hide would attach itself.
