what did you think of Wednesday's American Idol?

Ahh, another fan! I have been reading the "Idol" boards as well as watching the show. There was a general revulsion to the way they treated the last boy rejected. Giving his row the impression they were safe and then kicking him off at the last moment. There was a tendency on the boards to blame Ryan, but most realized this was set up by the producers. I don't think they will go this far again. This is the only "reality" show I watch, so I have to guess about this with the others, but I think the audience for these shows wants to see the contestants suffer.

Most people who watch understand that one of the major reasons the show works is because of the brutal honesty-sarcasm-of Simon. Contestants come on knowing they are going to be worked over.

Reading the boards gives you a different picture of who is doing well. I am rooting for Carrie Underwood, and think she will make the final four. She is talked about at length on the boards. I like Mikalah also, but she won't go beyond the final 12, I think. She is really disliked by a lot of the women posting to the boards. I like the combination of 17 year old "spunk" with the "early Babs" routine.

The surprise to me is Scott Savol. Good singer, terrible appearance. He reminds me of the recruit "Leonard Pratt" in "Full Metal Jacket" who goes nuts and kills his DI and himself halfway through the movie. I expected him to be voted off early on. But the boards are full of threads that are very sympathetic to him.

OTOH, Bo Bice, the 29 year old rocker who Simon didn't want in the final 24, did the best job of any of the male singers last week.

I wasn't going to post on this subject, but I couldn't resist the cape you passed in front of me.
