The old "Evil Empire" (as Reagan called them when they were pretty long in the tooth) might be preferable in some ways to a diffuse and globally separated Axis of Evil. BTW, did you forget the role of our "buddy" in Pakistan vis a vis nuclear proliferation. Acknowledging that USSR's existence provable promoted security and stability for the U.S. as evidenced by the lack of any terror attacks on the U.S. during the same period is not the same as championing them. Do you think that the increase in tensions Bush incompetently brews right now with Putin is more or less likely to send us into Nuclear Oblivion?
