If you only see black and white and good and evil, then of course USSR = evil. On the other hand, if you see the world as a chess board, you can see the use in even a rather nasty piece of work, if it protects some other area one is concerned with. How to balance the repression of the USSR, against the fact that they kept a lid on ethnic cleansing?

Obviously the call is very easy for people who don't think about all the details involved, but then, they aren't really thinking, are they?
