"At the moment" no benchmarks have ever been presented and despite your claim, at the moment AMD has no dual-core product.

Dual Core Opteron should launch in a few months, and has been well ahead of Intel's answer for a some time... until recently.

Public benchmarks may not be fully disclosed but I guarantee you from the preliminary benchmarks I've seen, dual 2Ghz cores will outperform a single 4Ghz core in many CPU intensive applications like gaming or simulation. Put dual CPU's with dual cores in a Workstation and you have a pretty serious product.

Then there's the 64bit issue where AMD holds an advantage with their Hammer architecture. AMD's strategy of creating a 32bit processor with 64bit extensions out maneuvered Intel's 10 year effort of creating a 64bit processor with a 32bit tumor.

There are scads of websites that show single core Opteron has some performance advantages over Xenon on many benchmarks... but gaps in benchmarks are quickly closed. Enough runway for Dell to invest the resources? Again apparently not.
