Russ all kidding aside I have been grocery shopping for the last 22 years for my family. I can guarantee you prices of all food have gone up and rather sharply as a whole. May not show in government printouts but prices are up.

You checked the price of Filet Mignon lately? Of course many prices appear to have not gone up as what you used to get 16 ounces of now may come in a 12 ounce container for the same price.

Oh please.
What a bunch of bunk.
People eating Filet Mignons probably do not give a rats ass what it cost.

Round steak on sale for this week at Mejier for $1.99 lb.
In 1968 when I worked in grocery stores it was $.99 lb.
I know what I am talking about as I worked in stores for 3 years 1968-1971.

If you buy meat not on sale, yes it is expensive but you have to be a FOOl to do that. I got center cut pork chops - extremely lean one all fat trimmed at Jewel last week for $2 a lb. Now if you do not buy those on sale you pay $4.59 lb for them.

So yes, if you are a piss poor shopper food can be expensive, but if you have half a clue food is incredibly cheap. I mean really, round steak from .99 to 1.99 in 30 years!!!! Is that inflation?

You can get butt hams on sale this week for .99 lb.
Way back when (30 years ago) just how much cheaper do you think they were? .49 perhaps? I do not remember exactly but I doubt it was any lower.

Here's one more I remember. Chickens at .29 lb. Now if you buy them on sale you can get them for .69 or so. Another bargain over 30 years. I got chicken breasts last week for .99 lb. A veritable bargain!

I can go on and on. Yeah if you shop like a moron, food is expensive. That is the bottom line of it all.

Yes, processed foods have gone up a lot. But no one forces you to buy TV dinners instead of cooking. No one forces you to buy deli ham at absurd prices of $7 lb instead of but hams for .99 either.

Is the average shopper eating that much Filet Mignon?
Please be serious.
One does not need to hedonically adjust prices. All one has to do is buy food on sale and freeze it. Shop like a human being with a clue and food is cheap cheap cheap (at least meat is).
