Hello Kemble...

It's a tough call. The only real downside is that once you let your subscription expire, you lose all your songs.

This model basically allows the consumer to "rent" an unlimited amount of music for a monthly fee. Most people don't like the idea of being locked into a subscription service to keep their tunes however.

On the flipside, it's an all you can eat buffet. If you are a heavy consumer of music, this is an interesting value proposition. Personally, I would definitely opt for a service like this over the $1 a song services currently available. I could sample an unlimited number of songs and discover artists I never knew existed. I like the idea of being able to download to my hearts content without worrying about the cost. If I let the subscription expire, I can always go out and permanently purchase the songs or CD's I really liked.

It's kind of like the difference between the old ISP days where you only had 10hrs or so before you went over and had to pay incrementally vs. today's surf all you want for a monthly fee. I hated the concept of keeping track of how many hours I was surfing on the net.

A plan like this is also a potential boon for lesser known artists as it would allow consumers to broaden their search and discover of talent to add to their list of favorites.

Will it succeed? I don't know. So far, consumers haven't responded favorably to the concept. I'm not sure if it's just the fact that it won't work with Ipod's or what the real deal is. If you do the math, this is an incredible value IMO.
