What a terrible story!
We have lovely people in our PO here. They were very nice this morning to me.
FOllow up on the story: This morning I called the State Dept again at 7am, and they found my file with no problems, and claimed they had indeed mailed the passport on Jan 4. They said I would be in a big mess if I had now sent in another application, so I rushed to the passport office and waited until they opened the doors, and lo and behold, my application was still sitting on the desk of the person who had taken it on Fri!! Which usually would have had me rolling my eyes at the inefficiency but this time I was so happy I hugged her.
She gave me back my pictures and all my money and I mailed a letter requesting reissuance to the State Dept. This time, I cleverly asked for confirmation of delivery and I also enclosed a prepaid and addressed priority mail envelope. I suppose this could confuse them even more, but we'll just hope for someone who can think outside the Regulation book.

I have to have this because I am chaperoning five teenagers on a cruise the first week of April. Did I tell you about this?
