Matsushita To Supply Digital TV Equipment To Chinese Station

TOKYO, JAPAN, Newsbytes via Individual Inc. : Matsushita Electric Industrial
Co., Ltd. [TOKYO:6792] announced it has won a 200 million yen contract from
Shanghai Television Station for the company's DVCPRO digital broadcast
system. The system will create a new, all-digital, electronic news gathering
(ENG) system for the station.
The deal includes ENG cameras, editing studio recorders, laptop editors,
desktop recorders and studio cameras, said Matsushita, which markets the
systems under its Panasonic brand name. The equipment is scheduled to be in
use in little over a month, when it will be used by the station for the
national sports contest to be held in Shanghai.
Shanghai Television Station is a major broadcaster in China. The nation's
other state broadcaster, China Central Television (CCTV) also bought a
Panasonic DVCPRO system in December 1996.
