Yep, it is the first of the month and there are inflows, an up day would not surprise me.

I talked with someone last night who was explaining that when commodity stocks (energy, materials, etc.) are the leaders of a mature cyclical bull market, on the heels of hot underlying commodities, and there is obvious inflation in the system that the market might react bullishly but it really is bearish and the rally never lasts long.

That's his read of the current market and he handicapped it like this, the SPX will rise 50 points on the long commodities idea but then lose 150 points when it sinks in that higher inflation is negative for many companies. Does that make any sense? Intellectually I get it but I wasn't trading through the markets of the 1970s, or earlier, which may be the last time we've seen circumstances like that.
