Yes, the CPI uses a conceptually flawed formula. And productivity uses a conceptually flawed formula (just wait until they adjust for my formula suggestions from a few weeks ago :). And I learned a little while back that gasoline is a large component of the retail sales figures, about 10%, so many times "strong" retail sales are really a function of higher gas prices and not a gauge or underlying consumer demand.

Sure, everyone reacts to the headline numbers that are, for the most part, a crock like you said.
