To take the sarcastic position here, I'm suggesting that capitalism at its heart is a criminal operation. Here's a prime example of a company that was praised to the rafters in the late 1990s as the exemplar of the "best of breed" new capitalism models. Enron was nothing but a bucket shop on steroids, and they had a hell of a lot of cheerleaders, now didn't they? washingtonpost.com Capitalists have no shame. Just look at Bernie Ebbers perjuring himself this week on the witness stand. What a duplicitous scoundrel, and this is what Wall Street hero-worships. We live in a sick society. When our CEOs aren't robbing the public blind, we have a military that's on a mad adventure to create the first totally horrible world-wide police state empire. How ugly can American capitalist pigs get? Pretty damn ugly.
