< It seems that a lot of the more remote methane that is convenient to the world's shipping lanes will eventually be compressed and shipped as LNG.>

Or, more likely, converted to methanol at the well-head and shipped as methanol for vehicles, which is VERY easily and safely transported and is much more valuable than just burning methane in a power station.

I haven't thought about it, but I suppose it must be time to dust off the old vehicle methanol plans given the high crude oil prices.

Power stations can run on other stuff. Vehicles need compact, clean, energy sources. Methanol is good, when run through a catalytic converter to clean up the aldehydes.

Not so many people would die in vehicle crash fires either, as it's less flammable, burning with a gentle flame. Some would try drinking it, as sometimes happens with fatal results [25 ml being a lethal dose]. People hear the word "alchohol" and don't understand just how poisonous some alcohols are.
