Re: Gus, to control Syria completes the jig-saw puzzle!

The jigsaw puzzle, as you put it, can be turned into a shambles if civil war breaks out in Lebanon... Everybody is now calling for an international investigation into the assassination of Rafik Hariri but what if the lead points to sheik Nasrullah and Hezbollah???? I guess I don't need to draw you a picture!

Re: ...why the Belgiums are known througout Europe for their foolishness?

Actually, Belgians have been known --and praised-- throughout Europe for their peaceful "conflict settling"... so far. Popular wisdom has it, in Belgium, that, granted, the country is routinely thrown from one linguistic dispute (between Flemings and French-speaking Belgians) to the next. However, those linguistic crises have never degenerated into bloodshed --like in Yugoslavia, Rwanda, the Mideast, the Basque country, etc.

But today, I'm afraid the country is nearing a climax of sorts: the "BHV issue" may well turn out to be the showdown and spell the end of Belgium as a federal, unitary state --not a good thing for the European Union as a whole.
