Bin Laden, Omer, Al-Zawahiri no more in Afghnistan: Afghan official

KARACHI: Afghan Consul General (CG) in Pakistan Abdul Muqtader Frozanfar Wednesday said Osama bin Laden, Mullah Omer and Ayman Al-Zawahiri were no more hiding in Afghnistan and he believed Taliban strength was diluting in the country.

“Rashid Dostum is not raised to the rank of army chief, but he is vice army chief. Following his appointed in the army situation in the country has improved substantially, said Mr Frozanfar.

This he said while talking to journalists after inaugural session of a two-day international workshop titled 'the Challenges of Rebuilding Afghanistan'. The session was addressed by Vice Chancellor University of Karachi, Dr Perzada Qasim, Chairperson International Relations department Khalida Ghous, The Hanns Seidel Foundation’s Dr Aderyarzudk and other distinguished dignitaries.

The workshop was organized by The Program on Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, Departmental of International Relations, University of Karachi in collaboration with The Hanns Seidel Foundation, Islamabad.

The Afghan CG informed that Afghanistan rebuilding and reconstruction process was going well. However, he noted that more concrete steps were needed for the revival of education sector.

He said roads network had been improved significantly, adding, "Now, it would take only six hours from Kabul to Qandhar which was earlier a matter of couple of days."

He said old universities were being revived or reconstructed besides setting up new ones in main cities including Qandhar, Mazar-e-Sharif, Kabul, Jalalabad, etc.

To a question, he said there were no hurdles in rebuilding and reconstruction of Afghanistan. Taliban chapter was over, he remarked adding that the present Government believed to continue dialogue with limited number of Taliban to make them contribute in reconstruction of the country and making it economically strong.

He thanked Government of Pakistan and the people for extending moral and logistic support to Afghan people.
