You are mistaken. It is true that the Baathists were primarily Sunni backed and Sunni in general are not radical. However the insurgents are the more radical sunni taliban type and are backed by the international Al-Qaida loose knit forces. The sunni who do not want to be ruled by a shia dominated government are throwing their support behind these fundmentalist radicals. The others are either silent or are attempting to support the new government.
