1000 years ago, the Arabs were likely one of the most advanced cultures. That was back in the dark ages. And yes we keep learning more and more...but if you were to graph technical advance with respect to time, the line would be fairly flat for most of that 1000 years. It's not until the last 100 years that technological advances have skyrocketed and the line is near vertical. Even experts in their own fields have trouble keeping up with all the advancements today.
