LuminentOIC Announces 80 km Single Fiber SFP Transceiver for Metro Ethernet and Dark Fiber Applications
Thursday March 3, 12:29 pm ET

CHATSWORTH, Calif., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- LuminentOIC, a leading supplier of metro transceivers, CWDM & DWDM solutions, and Fiber-to-the- Premise (FTTP) solutions, announces the release of the industry's first 80 km single fiber Small Form Pluggable (SFP) product family. This product line allows for a plug-and-play replacement of 80 km Gigabit Ethernet ZX fiber pair with a solution that allows for the same performance using only a single fiber.
Long reach (80km) ZX Gigabit Ethernet is used for a variety of applications, such as Enterprise-to-Enterprise interconnection over dark fiber, and datacenter-to-datacenter interconnections. The new bi-directional ZX (BZX) transceiver uses two wavelengths multiplexed over a single fiber to allow for fiber reduction. Unlike Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) transceivers that use a 1310nm/1490nm wavelength combination, the BZX transceiver uses a 1490nm/1570nm wavelength pair. The longer wavelength combination allows for the increase of distance from 20 km to 80 km due to reduced loss at longer wavelengths in optical fiber.

Thomas Liljeberg, Director of Transceiver Product Management, commented, "LuminentOIC has a long history of providing innovative solutions to meet market needs. LuminentOIC was the first company to offer 80 km Gigabit Ethernet pluggable transceivers, and now continues to lead with products such as the single fiber 80 km SFP."
