We all swim on the flotsam of data. I agree with you that the rising short interest is indicative of an increase in hedging. A lot of short interest in something like the QQQQ, DIA, MDY, etc. is simply there to hedge long ports and not necessarily indicative of a condition of bearishness overall. I just pointed out the rising short interest to show that the death of the short seller in this market is greatly exaggerated.
