All of the people on earth, including the ones who are starving now, could eat and thrive if the grain fed to farm animals went directly to human food."

Wouldn't that bankrupt the producers of the grains?

How would it? The grain would still be consumed. Environmental degradation wouldn't take place, etc.

What would those poor unfortunate animals have left to eat?

The poor unfortunate farm factory animals would not exist because there would be no demand for them. They are better off never having existed than being locked in tiny crates so they can never move or be in the sunlight or have any real life at all. Every moment of their lives is horrible.
