They were a kind of "side message boards" using a more simplistic structure than normal message boards that Brad Dryer implemented a long time ago to give people a place to take their off-topic conversations so as not to dilute the relevant content on the message boards.

Later, he made the Coffee Shop category, where people could create these off-topic boards. The Coffee Shop boards got used very extensively, but one group, Datarace, had a handful of members that continued to use the obsoleted Clubhouse feature.

Though the data in the Clubhouse part of the site was migrated, it hasn't been implemented here because it's obsolete and was so little-used and really has no place in a site like this that has such a superior alternative in its Coffee Shop category.
