Four US soldiers killed in action in Iraq another dies in accident

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Four US soldiers were killed in action in Iraq (news - web sites)'s restive western Al-Anbar province, while another soldier was killed in a vehicle accident.

"Four Soldiers assigned to First Marine Expeditionary Force were killed in action March 4, while conducting security and stability operations in the Al Anbar province," a US military statement said Saturday.

A separate statement said one US soldier was killed and another wounded in a vehicle accident near Tikrit, north of Baghdad, at about 10:00 pm (1900 GMT) on Friday.

The latest deaths raised to 1,499 the number of US servicemen killed in attacks or accidents in Iraq since the launch of the American-led war to oust Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) nearly two years ago, according to Pentagon (news - web sites) figures.
