Support the Troops! Would like your opinion Ray -
Ray - I think you know my views on Iraq, pretty similar to yours I believe - I want them to put a date on it, and bring all US troops home, pretty much as this site recommends: bringthemhomenow.org
My question to you - how do you handle family and friends who email you things like:
** Sign this petition - showing that we support the troops, email them, etc., etc.??
I would like your take, and Ron's, maybe Dale's, X (still here X??) - on what you say in situations like this personally, or by email?
My take: I believe the right uses the phrase "Support the Troops" as a way to try to get support for the war in Iraq, in a subtle way.
Who could be against the troops? No one.
So, now that we're there, you must at least support the action and the troops, right...
I think it is insidious.
It is an empty phrase - Support the Troops - and means nothing to me.
Now - before I get slammed, I:
1. Don't want any US troops to come to any harm in Iraq. 2. But also don't support keeping them there, which gets more killed, maimed (physically or psychologically - anyone see Frontline this week - shameful what our is being done to our people there psychologically...) 3. Don't support the concept of our US troops killing Iraqis on their soil either.
I think the best way to support the troops is to get them the hell out of there, ASAP - we don't belong there.
Would like to hear how you are handling this issue Ray, Ron, Dale, X, and others....
Also - I think the protest actions you and Ron are doing are great.
Thanks.
