It is meant to replace planes that will be 20-30 years old.

The F-15s,16s, and 18s that are older are still, as a fighting system, better than anything else in the world, or anything coming up. They themselves are designed to fight a war that can never happen now. We don't need them replaced. The F-22 and 35 were designed in the cold war days, when we were constantly upgrading fighters.

There is just no good excuse for spending further money on them. I wish Bush would put out a "stop the line" order on both of them. Fat chance.
