I'm sorry, Ish. I was not in any way suggesting you are not a very compassionate man, a lover of animals, etc. I am quite sure that you are. It is really kind of you to take in animals who are in jeopardy and try to help them.
I was specifically talking about the care that meat animals--livestock--receive during their lives if they live on factory farms, and the treatment animals get at auctions and feeding lots and slaughterhouses.
There is a huge double standard in this country. We love some animals as pets, and yet treat other animals who are just as intelligent, sensitive, trainable, etc., such as pigs, really brutally. Pigs are smarter than dogs, for example, and very loving. But under factory farming, they spend their lives piled high in tiny crates and cannot have any part of the life that animals, even farm animals, enjoyed until the advent of factory farming. |
