I don't think they really want independence. They get more benefits with the threat of independence then they would ever get being independent and they know it. The only people that really believe in independence are the French intellectuals and I would like to see how successfully they could run a country. Maybe they would adopt the currency of France and be declared a colonial outpost. Of course that might be a good thing because then we could declare war on them which would be good for the economy in what is left of the country.
