Actually, my wife is the Admissions nurse on the Rehab floor in her hospital. Among other things she first has to evaluate the patient to make sure they would benefit from rehab, then she has to get permission from the patients insurance company to admit them. If its an HMO she has come home with awful stories about getting the runaround from Insurance companies(one of the tricks they play is wait until they THINK she has gone home, then return her call, hopeing to play telephone tag till the patient gives up. Thus my wife NEVER comes home before 8:30pm awaiting call backs. She prefers Medicare cause IF the patient meets the guidelines its pretty automatic they get admitted. jdn
