It shouldnt be, but it is. Being as my wife is in health care we have many friends in the field. One of them is a World Renowned Eye Surgeon, inventor of Lasic Surgery. He as well as others have told me stories that seem CRIMINAL. Example: Patient who had an easily correctable eye problem which left unattended would result in blindness. For months he argued with the patients insurance company seeking permission to operate. They just kept putting him off, FINALLY the patient went TOTALLY BLIND and surgery could no longer help. It infuriated him so that, as he put it, he had to deal with CLERKS who know nothing, that he finally retired. IMHO HMO's are the more dangerous in many cases then having no insurance at all. One can always go to the emergency room if one is uninsured and BY LAW the hospital must treat one. jdn
