Front page article on Taser in the St. Petersburg Times newspaper on Saturday, 3/5, talking about a new, compact lightweight version, the X26C model, for sale to the public for $999.00, which was unveiled last fall. It shoots up to 30 seconds, versus the police model which shoots only 5 seconds at a time. Thomas Smith is quoted in the article "I just can't get my arms around how big this can be" (meaning how huge the potential market will be for this product). It only shoots up to 15 feet and weighs only 7 ounces, lighter than 2 earlier civilian models. The 30 second shock time gives someone time to place the taser gun on the ground and depart a dangerous scene, while safely disabling the tased person. A store in Brandon, Florida, which sells an earlier civilian model Taser for $520, said that sales are so good that they didn't have anything but demonstration models in stock this week.
