Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Standardizes Corporate-Wide on Interwoven Enterprise Content Management
Interwoven ECM Provides a Platform for Rolling out Targeted Business Solutions Across the Enterprise
3/7/2005 8:05:06 AM

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 7, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Interwoven, Inc. (IWOV), provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions for business, today announced that Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has standardized on Interwoven ECM across the enterprise. Multiple product lines in Interwoven's ECM platform will be leveraged including Collaborative Document Management, Web Content Management, Digital Asset Management, Content Intelligence and Content Distribution. Interwoven was chosen because its integrated, service-oriented architecture (SOA) based platform provided the flexibility Royal Caribbean needed to support both planned and future solutions for content-driven business processes.

"Interwoven is our strategic vendor for Enterprise Content Management, and its flexibility is allowing us to roll out solutions that will help us deliver better service to our guests and travel partners. This flexibility also makes it easier for people to do business with us," said Mike Sutten, Royal Caribbean's CIO.

Royal Caribbean is now rolling out an integrated accounts payable solution based on Interwoven Collaborative Document Management, Kofax Ascent Capture and Oracle's PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne Financial Management. Interwoven partner BCS Systems is playing a major role in the planning and implementation. The integrated system will allow more efficient processing of accounts payable invoices for the thousands of vendors that service Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises, the two brands under the Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. umbrella. This solution is the first of many planned uses of Interwoven Collaborative Document Management at the world's second-largest cruise line.

"The flexibility of Interwoven Collaborative Document Management -- particularly its workflow -- was attractive to us because it can adapt to our immediate needs, as well as map to our future needs. Ultimately, we expect this technology will be available on ships across our fleet, allowing all areas of our business to benefit from streamlined workflow processes," said Keith Hopkins, Royal Caribbean's project manager.

Interwoven Digital Asset Management was selected by the cruise line to consolidate brand assets into a single, central repository. Royal Caribbean plans to build a brand portal, leveraging both Interwoven Digital Asset Management and Web Content Management. Through this portal, Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises travel partners will have direct and easy access to both brands' digital assets, and the company can be assured that its partners are using the appropriate assets. This extranet will save time and costs associated with sending updated graphics to partners. It also will make it easier for partners to do business with the cruise line. In addition, the portal will leverage Interwoven Content Intelligence software to make search and retirement of digital assets quicker and easier. This will reduce the time and inaccuracies associated with the manual tagging of content, increasing the ease-of-use and reliability of the extranet for Royal Caribbean employees and partners.

RCCL also is planning to upgrade its original implementation of Interwoven's Web Content Management software to the latest version. As a result of the upgrade, RCCL is expanding its contributor base, which in turn will allow the company to better react to changing conditions in the market, weather and capacity by publishing more frequently without additional burden on the IT staff. The use of templating also has reduced the labor involved in routine publishing by separating text content from page layout and design. In addition, templating has made it easier for Royal Caribbean's Spanish-language Web site to be maintained.

"Royal Caribbean has established itself as a company that is easy to do business with, and cutting-edge technology has played a major role in the company achieving this reputation," said Kevin Hayden, vice president of corporate marketing at Interwoven. "We look forward to continued collaboration with Royal Caribbean as it further leverages its Interwoven ECM implementation as part of its overall strategic plan."
