who picks up the tab this time is basically the theme of this thread.

The consumer - even though it is their own fault, a lot of people who got suckered into spending based on their asset wealth versus incoming generating ability is going to be hit hard.

All the usual suspects, FRE, FNM, MIs would all be hit hard.

Last time it was around $500 billion, that was the RTC bail out if I remember correctly. I don't know how much it may be this time but I suspect that may not be the issue. Last time, it was a "S&L Debacle", could it be a "systemic failure" this time? What is the price tag of a systemic failure?
