Dom - Re: "BTW, did you and the kid get into Fenway? The left field wall, is it really "green & monstrous"?"
Yes - the Hotel Concierge at the Sheraton got us tickets for Friday and Saturday's game against the Atlanta Braves.
My son's favorite team is Atlanta (he loves Chipper Jones) and it was great with Altlanta beating the Sox 9-2 and 15-3. We watched the Sunday night game on TV, with Atlanta winning again, 7-3.
The Green Monster is Monstrous and Green. It is 37 feet high, running from the left foul pole , 310 feet from home plate, perpendicular to the foul line, toward left-Center field - about 370 feet from home. There is a 23 foot high fence/net on top of the wall.
The wall wasn't always green. It used to contain advertising posters up until 1947.
We also saw the White Sox in Chicago at the new Comiskey Park - a GREAT stadium - all the frills of the modern baseball park. Excellent seating, etc.
However, Fenway is the REAL DEAL. Old, rickety, shabby, a bit dilapidated - I'd like to go every day if possible.
As for Jerry Sanders' timing for his short fall announcement - I don't have a clue why he picked today. Maybe he just needed to see his name in print.
