Freesias--one of my very favorite flower smells. Your garden sounds like it will be lovely!

Spring is my favorite season. It is much too early to plant things like tomatoes here, because the ground is still cold, and a lot of people make the mistake of trying to anyway and end up having to buy all new plant starts when the first set dies. June is a more likely time for vegetables. Our big marmalade cat notices that the weather is quite hot and sits on the dormant catnip bush in the pets’ garden, like he is a big orange bird trying to keep an egg warm or something. It won’t come back for months, but the weather is confusing him, and I’m sure he can smell the catnip and remember summer.

Summer is the animals’ very favorite time. They lie on the cold concrete of the breezeway when the temperature gets too much for them, or inside under the biggest fans. But mostly they love to sunbathe out on the patio, where everyone lives, under umbrellas with tall drinks and Popsicles. Sometimes I hose the dogs down when I water the zucchini and pumpkin plants, and especially the hanging baskets, which are really very thirsty several times a day. The dogs are never sure at first about that idea, but love it after they realize it makes them more comfortable. Silly me, I bought them a wading pool last summer but no one wanted to go in. Maybe they would like a water slide, though . . . I am a real sucker for dog toys . . .
