What an amazing woman your aunt is! And there is a good chance you will be like her since you have the genes AND the example to emulate.
I do think that a lot of how we deal with life's challenges we were taught, many times inadvertently, by our families.

I was reading about Teddy Roosevelt last night and how he lost his first wife after childbirth and his mother from typhoid on the same day in the same house. His political career was going nowhere, and he suffered from several health issues, including a natural depression, but he took off to North Dakota to be a rancher and a writer, saying that "black care rarely sits behind a rider whose pace is fast enough."
According to David McCullough, carpe diem was a Roosevelt family trait.

I lack that enthusiasm and energy. What I got from my mother is a ind of stubborn doggedness. Her favorite expression was "tie a knot in the rope and hang on".
I would have preferred the energy, but you work with what you got. And reading about people like your aunt is inspirational, too.
