I thought we were talking about the war in Iraq.

1 - We were. You brought up Vietnam and I responded to it. If you don't want to talk about Vietnam, than you shouldn't... talk about Vietnam. Its not the complicated.

2 - The war in Iraq is also temporary. It might be another year, or another three, or another 5 or whatever but it isn't going to keep growing in terms of cost.

I was referring to your comments re. SS and Medicare, not Vietnam.

That is not what calculations show. At worse, those costs will level off eventually; at best, decline slightly.

1 - The calculations do show continued growth. Their might be a slight decline after the baby boomers in some of the calculations but then the growth continues.

2 - Almost every calculation done to determine the cost of these programs has been lower than the actual cost, often much lower.

After the boomers, any growth in SS payments will be offset by payments into the fund.
