Certainly methane is a more potent greenhouse gas than CO2. In fact, if it is going to be released, it is better to burn it. Which is why I obsess over the clathrates. So from what little is there, it looks good. But I can see two reasons why Greens aren't falling over themselves to back this.

1) If Bush backs it, there have to be fish hooks in it somewhere. Every one of his environmental initiatives have been that way. If you can't see it, how do you know they are buried like they were in the Medicare drug program?

2) History has shown that if you agree with Bush on an issue, no matter how trivial, you give up your right to disagree with him ever again. Else he will you the fact you agreed with him against you.

Bush has no one to blame for these two factors than himself. I am sure he will try to pin the blame on Clinton, but...
