There is some new fringe science technology for dealing with nuclear waste that is also being more or less buried by the powers that be, the same way alt.energy is being buried. This technology deals with accellerating the half life and/or changing the structure of the molecule (ie. alchemy) (both quite controversal from a scientific point of view).
