I don't think it's "ALWAYS" wrong, but the bar has to be awfully high, otherwise you could find a good reason to invade about 1/2 of those 191 countries.

I agree completely. Once you agree with the above, you can then proceed to discuss where the bar should be set.

Since Ted's view appears to be that it is ALWAYS wrong, further discussion with him on the subject is sort of pointless.

Like I said, it's like trying to discuss when an abortion should be legal with someone who believes in never should be - why bother?

And do we use a body like the UN or NATO to justify our interventions? If you set the bar high, it's a damn good idea, because you are including other perspectives in your deliberations.

This could be discussed between you and I, but would be a waste of time with Ted. Ted and I never even got this far.....

I'm not arguing with Ted, I'm disagreeing with you and your seeming willingness to involve US troops anywhere anytime.

I never wrote anything like that.

I think you are confusing my efforts to understand Ted's position (whether it was ALWAYS wrong, or sometimes OK) with my own position. The only statement I really made about my own position was something along the lines of "a government that for years or decades worsens the lives of its population and resists diplomatic efforts for reform probably should be removed by force."

That's hardly the willy nilly willingness to involve US troops anywhere, anytime that you ascribe to me.

Furthermore, it seems to me to be common sense.

Give me a little credit for sanity, eh?!
