Well, if we could just find a way to eliminate fraud in Medicade and Medicare I bet we could cut costs at least 25%. Then if hospitals could be made to run more efficiently I bet another big cut in costs would be available. Finally, if the federal government just underwrote research for new drugs perhaps we could cut the pharmacy bills another 25% or more. For some reason, in this country, Hospitals seem to spend an inordinate amount on PLANT. Where my wife works it now looks like the TAJ MAHAL, yet they have such a shortage of nurses, likely due to low pay, that they have to turn patients away!! 20 years ago this hospital wasnt fancy on the outside but they had plenty of nurses. Today, its mirror lakes, fancy new buildings, huge auditorium etc etc etc. jdn
