You are correct. They will passively support current subscribers. Where the force change starts to come into play (and what was on my mind with the comment) is with future HDTV support. They have already announced that the current HD version of the DirecTivo will not be able to decode the new MPEG4 compressed local stations that will be offered in the next couple years. So, unless you can get over-the-air locals or have managed to get waivers for national feeds the Tivo version becomes less compelling content-wise. Tivo at DirecTv will simply die a slow death as current Tivo hardware cycles through end-of-life.
