I read the shortage is mostly a reduction in blacks and women volunteer enlistees.
Both statistics are down several months in a row.

What I don't know yet is how well reenlistments are going or not going.

Getting privates to enlist is important. Getting SF guys ready to retire to reenlist to spend 85% of their time in war zones is equally important. We are already in trouble with the first, I expect us to have trouble with both.

And I don't expect bad press to help motivate youngsters to join. The SFers will make decisions based on personal considerations. After 20+ years on the line, and more than likely a coupla teen-agers at home, priorities for many finally swing towards family.
