That may be true but it does not account for Hezbollah's surprising popularity among the Lebanese people:

Hezbollah is the type of organization that has strong supporters and opponents. It only has minority support but the minority is not tiny and the support is strong. How much of the support is really solid and how much of it is going along with the locally powerful group because other people are doing it and its what you are used to doing is unclear but it does have a number of really commited supporters from its fight against Israel and from it charitable work and political patronage.
