Smithee, actually, for those 35 years of age and older, the best thing to get immediate and substantial attention from an ER staff, like within ten seconds, is chest pain or signs and symptoms of an impending or evolving stroke. But don't tell anyone I told you. <g>

Going to an ER with complaint of head injury is a very good way to be seen immediately, although you won't be treated for the pain or even given water until a definitive diagnosis is made. Making that diagnosis can take a while.

Hand and head injuries are given priority, but not over chest pain or stroke symptoms.

Another good way to get that immediate substantial attention is to be brought in code-3, in hypovolemic shock, because you are rapidly bleeding to death. Of course, that should be a last resort. <g>- Holly
