(ADSL is analog technology). ADSL can only be used effectively on short distances, otherwise performance approaches zero. Nevertheless DT *could* use ADSL from the nodes to households/offices to replace ISDN in this segment.
PMG,
First, Welcome to the Thread PMG
I beleive you need to take a trip over to Heidelberg and have a beer with Eric. It would easier than filling you in on 19 months of research on ADSL. ADSL is Digital, as in Digital Subscriber Line, and DSL can be run on ISDN, as in IDSL, but what a waste.
Almost forgot an ADSL advantage, with ADSL you can use the Phone at the same time on the same line.
ADSL runs 18,000ft or 6000m, at that distance the speed is around 2Mb, shorter distances can run up to 8Mb, and Amati is working on 10Mb these are all down stream, upstream 640KB - 1 MB, and again Amati is working on 2Mb upstream. ADSL has a big brother VDSL running up to 52MB 1000ft.
This thread is full of valuable information, in most of the 24,000 posts, started in DEC 95.
