Of course, you and Dipy oppose democracy - if you didn't you wouldn't be producing this constant drumbeat of condemnation of the Afghan elected gov't.

Bush has politicized this issue to gain ground on his botched war on terrorism. No you folks are politicizing the movement for democracy because it might make Bush successful.

The press is reporting today that in Lebanon there was a larger demonstration of people asking the Syrians to stay in Lebanon. What do you make of that? 1) the press always exaggerates the size of demonstrations - the "right" sort of demonstrations that is. 2) The earlier demonstrations had muslims and christians and many women participants - this one seems to have had only one woman and been all men. Were some of the demonstrators Syrian soldiers, I wonder? Anyway, the UN itself has called on Syria to pull out. Then the Lebanese can have free elections.

For Bush to take credit is an insult to the people of those countries and as always he is attempting to steal the glory from them. Bush hasn't taken credit - his supporters, including me, do say he deserves credit though. Lots of other people say so too. Do you remember the recent interviews with Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt? Have you read the headlies from European newpapers asking:

Was Bush right after all?

As Syria pulls out of Lebanon, and the winds of change blow through the Middle East, this is the difficult question that opponents of the Iraq war are having to face

The Guardian and a major German paper have had similar articles. All these are leftwing Euro papers.

Then there is liberal commentator, Daniel Schorr:

All Things Considered, March 1, 2005 · NPR's senior news analyst says that recent events in Lebanon and Egypt suggest that the Middle East is moving towards democracy. Bush may have had it right when he said that a liberated Iraq could show the power of freedom to transform the region.
