We've witnessed lots of that in the last two years here on Dean's World. It's been one of the reasons why we've often chided or outright slammed the mainstream media for its endless reporting of negativity and its flat refusal to do its patriotic duty and work as hard to provide positive as well as negative coverage

I don't get these comments. Why is it more patriotic "to work as hard to provide positive news"? When has that ever been a sign of patriotism? The news presents the news. That usually means focusing on the more negative stuff whether its local, national or international. Its what sells. Why should they treat Iraq differently?

Secondly, there isn't a lot of positive coming out of Iraq..........or rather the positive isn't all that wonderful. You can only talk so long about repainting the schools before it gets old. And in fact, living conditions in Iraq are worse than they were before the war started. IMO that is the important news story. Why does the right wing press work so hard to ignore that issue?

This business of working as hard as possible to present positive news worries me. That's when the press tends to make it up as they go along.
