I would not recommend risking one's house for an investment.

As for foreign money, please remember a couple of things.
1) we are late in the game. The US$ has lost 40% already. How much more is it going to drop?
2) currency trends last a long time so it could go on for a bit or you could see a significant retrace first or it could be putting in a bottom right now
3) You can get foreign CD at everbank (is that the right name?)
4) Pimco has foreign govt bond fund either hedged or unhedged. You might look into those.
