They want the violence to end. They are beginning to see that the only way to return to normalcy is to get the occupiers out. The vote was a step in that direction.

Polls in Iraq have should a high degree of hostility towards the occupiers. And the fact that the vote was a disaster for the US-backed candidate shows how much Iraqis disregard what America wants.

Once we finally leave, we'll have made many more enemies in Iraq than friends. It's hard to like a country that liberated you, but then fumbled the recovery so much that many have died and been maimed by that incompetence.
